Returns a substring using start and optional size.

Target member

Signature

1string->substring(start::integer, size::integer= ?)

Returns a substring using start and optional size.

string->substring is called with member syntax on a receiver value. string->substring works with text values. Normalize input at boundaries, escape at output boundaries, and keep encoding calls close to the place where the encoded text is needed.

Parameters

start
Required value of type integer. Supply start positionally unless the signature shows a keyword form.
size
Optional value of type integer. Supply size positionally unless the signature shows a keyword form.

Examples

Basic call

1'abcdef'->substring(2, 3)
The example shows the receiver and result shape. In templates, apply escaping at the final output boundary.
